J. R. R. Tolkien - Muses & the Beau Monde

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL, 3 January 1892, was an English writer, poet, philologist, and academic, best known as the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Much has been written about J. R. R. Tolkien so I shall just share some highlights, films and artwork. We begin with an interview by the BBC from 1964 where Tolkien describes his creative process and his love of grammar.

Below is A Film Portrait of J.R.R. Tolkien from 1996, narrated by Judi Dench. The documentary includes interviews of Tolkien and his children, professors and Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

Below is a film I shared before from the Bodelian Library in Oxford. The Bodleian Libraries' held an exhibition in 2018 titled Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth, which explores Tolkien's legacy, from his genius as an artist, poet, linguist, and author to his academic career and private life. In the clip below they show some highlight from the exhibition including the Tolkien's watercolours illustrations which are now part of the Bodelian's Tolkien Archive.
