Kill Your Darlings is a 2013 American biographical drama film written by Austin Bunn and directed by John Krokidas in his feature film directorial debut.
The film, set in the 1940s, is about the college days at Columbia of some of the earliest members of the Beat Generation (Lucien Carr, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, and Jack Kerouac), their interactions, and Carr's killing of his childhood friend David Kammerer in Riverside Park in Manhattan, New York City.
"A vibrant, insightful film about writers and writing.."
- Empire
"I love first times. I want my entire life to be composed of them."
- Lucien Carr, Kill Your Darlings
The film is intense and at times rather stressful but the glimpses into the early days of the Beats, "before On the Road, before Howl" is an exciting thing to watch.
