An adaptation of Dorothy L. Sayers 1930 mystery novel Strong Poison staring Edward Petherbridge, her fifth novel featuring Lord Peter Wimsey and the first in which Harriet Vane appears.
The story opens with mystery author Harriet Vane on trial for the murder of her former lover, Phillip Boyes: a writer with strong views on atheism, anarchy, and free love. Amateur detective Lord Peter Wimsey visits Harriet in prison, declares his conviction of her innocence and promises to catch the real murderer. Wimsey also announces that he wishes to marry her, a suggestion that Harriet politely but firmly declines. Episode one of the series is below, and it worth watching for Edward Petherbridge's portrayal of Lord Peter Wimsey alone.
